Jan 16

Since being in Wascana, I have met some wonderful people. A couple in particular is my next door neighbour Rick and his wife Kathleen. Kathleen is a freelance writer in the Yorkton area. She was kind enough to write an article about JD. Here is the link:

Hey BD,

I thought JD was pure bread? Kathleen and the Preacher are pretty nice peeps. West Nile eh, thought that was a myth, guess not. Lets not tell JD about the article it might go to his head.

Kathleen, thank you so much for your words. I think it is a good "heads up" for all of us to be careful of how powerful our misuse of words can be.

JD, best friend, loyal companion.

Joel Bancescue, a fine man. One who loves life and cares deeply for his family and friends; one who sees the best in everyone; who looks for the positive in every situation; one who courageously faced this challenge from day 1; who inspires each of us with his spirit, determination, focus, and tenacity; who gives more than he takes; who's fun and interesting to be with. A fine man whom I'm proud to know.

The accident hasn't changed any of these qualities!

And I haven't even listed your talents and abilities!

So much love,
Aunty Peni

That was a good article about JD. I hope you recall that at Hippo Beach we also have additional last names similiar to those in the Wascana. There is Shane "the know-it-all", Kenny "the hook", Gene "the girlie boy", Vern "the smoker", Penny "the pale", George "the short", Donna the boathouse b****", Larry " the long winded", and of course Pete "the really intelligent good looking muscular guy".
I don't know how these nicknames came to be but they really seem to capture the essence of the individual. Anyhow we hope this summer sees the return of Joel "who brings all the cute girls down the beach guy".
