August 2 Update
Joel's Physio continues to be hard work, but he is definitely up for the challenge. He has increased his tolerance to the physio, and is tired, but in good spirits. If you have any good, CLEAN stories please feel free to post them. And of course inspirational stuff is great too! Joel was brought to tears by all the support after reading this blog and his family loves reading all the comments too. XOXOXOXO

Hey Boy,
Good clean stories, eh? Not too sure how many of those I have..just joking. I suspect that you might find it humorous that the family had a little football game out here the other night and my team kicked some serious butts. It was so bad that Dylan refused to accept defeat and continued to argue that the game was called on account of lighting, which was entirely untrue. Typical of Dylan though. You must be used to that from shinny, hey? Also, my uncle George nearly gave me a concussion....and you can imagine how I must have retaliated to that one.
OK, enough silly stories. I got you a little something today..you will have to wait a couple of days to lay your eyes on it though...do not get too excited...it is my usual typical cheesy gift.
So glad to hear that you are pushing yourself with the physio. Challenges are the keys to life!!!!I am thinking of you and will be in to see you tomorrow or the next day. Everyone here loves you and is rooting for you to kick ass in physio. Show them what Joel is made of! Love you so much-Ju
hey joel-when can we fight to the death again? GET BETTER SOON....OR ELSE!!!!
XOXOXOXOXOXOX

Stories...Hmmmm,
Well, there was this one time, at rowing camp, Joel put an oar... oh wait, these are suppose to be clean...hmmm... All my stories with you buddy either involve a lot of beer, or a lot of rowing, neither of which people want to hear. But I can tell them that they were some of the best times of my life, and that getting the chance to share them with someone like you made them that much better. Here's to a complete recovery (well maybe not so complete that you still kick my ass at everything), and looking forward to letting the good times roll once again.
Kyle
Hey Stud,
Nice to see you today, looked like you just had a Rocky Balboa work out. All you needed was some raw eggs and you would have been rockin. Keep fighting buddy. See you again soon.
Hey Joel... the construction crew and the paint guys are working on "Sabbatical" and you are often in our conversations and thoughts. Even Dan Scavuzzo manages to crack a smile at times. You have a lot of people cheering for you brother!
We have been making dinosaur bones and as you can imagine we have depeleted the total possible supply of "Bone" jokes!Be grateful that you dont have to experience all the bad humour!
We miss your cheery personality among the crew.
You have a recovery fight on your hands man... but you have a really great prognosis...due to your own positive and optimistic personality, and your physical strength.
You CAN do it.
very best wishes
Johann
Hi Joel: I had lunch with your mum today. My plan was to buy her lunch but I forgot my wallet: conVEEENient, as Presto Manning would say. We talked about you lots, of course.
I'm away on holidays for a few weeks starting Saturday and won't likely have regular, if any, access to a computer, so I won't be able to send messages and for sure won't be able to drop in. So please know that despite the silence, you will be in my thoughts.
I'm sure you'll be at Wascana by the time I'm back, so see you there.
Hugs, Aina
Hi Joel, I am one of the Paramedics that picked you up from the beach. I am so glad to hear you are doing better, I have thought about that morning often. I have ran into several people who know you and they all say your spirits are high and you are doing very well.
Good luck to you in the future and I wish you all the best.
My thoughts are with you and your family.

Some people seem surprised by the popularity of this blog. Not me. Everytime I wore a Sask Rowing bunnyhug while living in rez at U of C I got the same question - 'You're a rower from Saskatchewan. Do you know my boyfriend Joel?' Yeah, and you might want to ask around - I think you're one member short of becoming an official student club.
Joel...just wanted to say hi...and let you know that we're thinking of you always and wishing you well bud. Keep strong amigo! Guess what...Alberta just called...says we owe her a coffee...I didn't believe her til she pulled out your ID...Love Z!
Just a quick note to say I thinking about you. Keep up the good work. Keep your spirits up and keep fighting the good fight.
Take care,
lots of love,
Allison
Hey Joel,
You have been on my mind for a few weeks now - and now i know why I felt the urge to contact you! Having only just found out what has happened, i am in shock.... but i am sooo glad you are ok!!! I think in these situations its hard to see the positive things with so much else going on - but one thing is for sure, the big positive is that you are still here with us!!
I know I may be living a million miles away in Australia but I dont think time and space can prevent my thoughts and love from reaching you right now.....
You sound like you are doing so well.... You are amazing and truly courageous. I only wish I could pop over to visit you. Make sure those physios are doing a good job - or I will have to come over there and take over from them! (My patients here will just have to cope without me!)
Sending lots of love to you my friend, and after that love has travelled nearly 10,000 miles to get to you, just think of how much more intense it will be when it arrives....
Love Clare xoxoxoxox
Hi Joel! Great to hear that you are progressing and hope to read more in the next couple of days. Couldn't wait to get to email to hear how you are doing and hope to catch more news soon. Just wanted you to know we are thinking about you as we travel about Ontario and Quebec. Keep up the good work! Bryan Hillis and family.
Joel
I'm moved to tears just reading these blog comments - to know that you have literally countless number of people pulling for you, to hear how strong you are in your physio, and to know your spirit can't be broken is so incredibly inspiring. I really wish I could be there and have one of our late night chats - I'll call before I leave for Nelson again on Monday - I've got lots of good reading to pass on right now. I love you so much
Ally (the favourite cousin - not one of these elusive girlfriends people keep talking about )
Joel,
In the past few weeks I have ran into countless people who in some way or another you have inspired. Many of these same people, you would not remember their names or faces but they certainly remember you. The fact that others come to tears when they hear you are injured is more than the human condition.... it is about you touching lives wihtout even knowing, powerful gift!
Take care of yourself, we are all routing for you!

Joel,
I just started working in Calgary this week and have been thinking about you while I try to get up to speed with the new job.
I enjoy getting regular updates from this blog and reading about all the lives you have touched. I can only imagine how many more people you will inspire before this fight is done.
Can't wait for the next time you come to town, although there won't be a Cowboy's to rip it up at, as it is being transformed to an office tower...
Stay strong Joel!!!

Hey joelio,
Sorry I didn't get much chance to hang out with you yesterday. I will be back soon. If you didn't listen, the Riders won last night! They beat the Lions, who were unbeaten before the Riders rolled into town.
I've got a funny story. Remember the hockey trips we have taken and how I get mad and bossy in the hotel rooms? Thanks for letting me have my own bed and sharing with Rowe!
Thank you for also always being there for me when I need you. I don't have a dad to fix things for me and you have always been more than happy to help me out.
Thanks for being you.
love court
Hi Joel
I'm so sorry it has taken me so long to to send this but I want you to know that you have been in my thoughts and prayers every minute of everyday. You are a fighter and I know with your determination and the love and support of your family and friends, you are going to get through this. Stay strong!
All my love,
Karin Wilde
Hi Joel--Do you remember me--Claire the fried chicken lady? Sarah Liberman's step mom? Anyway, just wanted you to know you are in my thoughts and prayers!

Hi Joel This is Auntie Sheila again. I am coming in to see you on Sat. after work around 430. If that's not a good time tell your mum to call me or Davey. I hate exercises. I feel for you with the physio. see you soon...love Sheila
Hey Joel, I just wanted you to know I read the blog every day - there doesn't seem to be a minute in any day when we aren't thinking of you. You show so much courage and grace, it's a lesson to us all. Love you, Uncle John
Joel,
I am so sorry to hear about what happened to you. I hope you are doing well and get better soon. We are busy with work but when you are feeling better I will definately come to Regina and visit it has been way too long. Maybe we will do some coffee and rum shots and then talk about maps.
Miss you tonnes, get better.
Mills
Hey dude!
I just found out what happened. Then I see this blog and that you are already fighting your way through physio! Amazing, absolutely amazing! You are one of the strongest people I know. You seem to excel at anything you try, and I know this recovery will be the same. I hope you liked all the slideshows I had been sending since I moved down to Phoenix. I haven't made any in a while, but will probably get back at it soon.
I hope you get well soon! Next time I am in Regina, I expect to party with you!
hey joel
