Just an observation to boost your spirits. I couldn't help but notice that the day before you and Jen appeared on the front page of the Leader Post, Tony Merchant was on the first page. Every day you get to wake up and notice some improvement in your condition. Conversly, every day Tony wakes up and he's still Tony Merchant. Can't get much worse that that can it?
Okay, it is one thing to have your face splashed across all the papers in the country. But to become an entire topic of conversation on the Corner Gas website? THAT is a feat in itself! I love it!

What’s Important? Just Ask Joel

Sometimes, all you need is to put things in perspective. Sometimes life puts them into perspective for you. This is one of those times.
Joel Bancescue is a 26 year-old carpenter who has worked in the film industry in Regina, Saskatchewan for the past few years on several projects including Corner Gas, Tideland, Surveillance, Ferris Wheel (now titled Sleepwalking) and The Englishman’s Boy. On Sunday, July 22nd, 2007 Joel dove off the dock at a beach and fractured his C4 and C5 vertebrae. He has since undergone surgery to fuse the vertebrae and prevent further injury. Although we’ve never hung out off set, here’s what I do know about Joel. He loves his new Blackberry. On the set of Surveillance I asked him about how the email syncing works and how much the data plan is. I know that he always says hi and asks how you are doing. Joel always has a smile on his face, whether he’s flying a wall or drilling a hole. He’s one of the most down to earth people you could ever meet. The last time I saw Joel he was unloading 2×4’s off a pickup truck on the set of Finn On The Fly. It’s funny how when you hear about something bad happening to someone you know, your mind immediately flashes back to all the little details.
I pray that Joel will be slinging boards, pounding nails and building sets once again. Take care buddy. Thanks for putting things in perspective for me.

Back from Henley and I've learned a few important lessons - Joel's race plans only works if you steer straight. I kept going harder and harder and at the 1500 (in the 1x) and the 1950 (in the 4x) we dinged buoys and caught massive crabs and no longer had enough oxygen to the brain to figure out how to get the oars turned around again. Still - we had some great races and I finally got my Henley gold (lwt. 8+ dash - I should have tried that sweeping thing years ago - so much simpler - just pull).
Missed you at Henley party last night but I think you would have been proud - we closed My Cottage and most of the port. I love a town where 'check out that girl's musculature' and 'ya baby, work those lats' count as pick up lines.
I'd love a hat because I have been informed Joel is the source of all fashion trends in Regina (I think I amused RJ last night when she complimented my outfit and I said 'thanks, I dressed myself').
I notice a few posts from Richmond as well - if they want hats tell them to put in their order and I pick them up next week. What's the production time like - I think you could do some decent business at the regatta.
