Great Couple O Days

So...I have had such a wonderful last couple of days and it was made even better that I could get down to enjoy the Rowing competition and to be able to see everyone who came down to support and donate some sweat to the area. Thanks to everyone who had a part in the "Pull for Joel" fundraiser, especially Dawn who made the magic happen.

And a big thanks to all who showed up for the Corner Gas fundraiser. The support was so overwhelming and incredible that I can't thank everyone enough.I am honestly speechless!

Thinking about you all and keep coming to visit! See you soon!!!!!

Cheers!
Joel

Hey Joel,
This is an email from my cousin Trina to my sister Ellen. Trina was paralyzed in a car accident 10 years ago and is currently training in California at a place called "Awakenings"

...................................
hey ellen - how are you? have you been enjoying your summer so far? what have you been up to? i'd love to hear all about what you've been up to these days if you get a chance. Well, all has been going amazing down here in southern cali. Everyday new things are happening and lots of experiences to learn from. I'm grateful for everything. Awakenings continues to be exactly the right place that I need to be right now. I am soo excited just thinking about it. The people are great and
very supportive which makes it that much better to go and workout everyday.

I've been working out now Monday to Thursday for 3 hours, Friday and Saturday for 2 hours. Also I gait train for an hour 3 times a week, have acupuncture twice a week and a massage once a week. With all this, I end up
being at Awakenings for most of the day. I train with my main trainer Jim most of the time, and for 2 or 3 hours a week with Laura, one of the owners. She is the one who has recovered from a
pinal cord injury already. I've learnt lots from her, and having the opportunity to work with both Laura and Jim has been great. They know what it takes to help me progress to walking properly again. Also with them, I
have no doubts that they have the same goals for me as I do. They have helped me a lot in many ways.
My workouts have been going very well. I have gotten to 5 lengths on the parallel bars totally on my own, but we have been really working more on breaking down the movements for walking and making sure I do them all 100% properly. Last week I was able to do over 100 small squats while standing
at a walker. Also, the core is so important for me to strengthen right now to make all my movements that much easier and better. A lot of the focus has been on my arms and upper body as well. I guess in other words, we just
have to get all my muscles stronger, which is definitely happening more everyday. I am soo excited to go to my workouts every single day, knowing each day is one day closer to reaching my goals.A couple weekends ago I made it up my first hill with my hand cycle. It felt great, especially in my shoulders. Since then, I have been making sure to go out for a ride everyday. It is also really strengthening my upper
body. It's always such a great, peaceful ride in the sun.
I also went swimming last weekend with some friends at a house in La Jolla. It was a salt water pool, and it was really nice. Where we were at, had such a beautiful view of the ocean, beaches and the city.
I am so happy I had the chance to go to the Padres game last night vs the Giants. I had the opportunity to go right down onto the field for batting practice. It was pretty cool. Then, to be there to witness Barry Bonds
make history last night.it was great!! Once in a lifetime experience for sure.
Some other news that I have right now, is that I moved into my own apartment this weekend. I am very excited! It's much closer to Awakenings. It takes 5 minutes by car, at the most, or we can also walk sometimes too. I'm
really looking forward to everything that involves living in my own place, a new experience.
also, i'm excited cause my friend is coming to visit tomorrow. it'll be lots of fun.

anyway, hope all is going great with you.look forward to hearing from you.
have a great week.

Hey Joel, glad to hear that everything has been going so well lately. With my week off between shows, I would have stopped in to visit but Sabbatical's long hours and nights kicked my butt and I got sick. I even lost my voice for a couple of days. Thank heaven that Moccasin is only supposed to be 10 hour days! The crew is still thinking about you and sending positive energy.
Cheers!

Hey BD,

Love the head cover, and i think everyone is pleased it has taken top spot over the wallabies beer hat i have been sporting. I need something to keep the fro contained. Not all of us are gifted with a uniform brain bucket. Worked on my parallel park saturday afternoon, i needed the practice. I will stop by this week, maybe a couple times, i don't see me doing to much work this week!
