Reunited at last!
Joel and his best bud JD are finally reunited!
Joel was moved to the fifth floor and he will soon be starting extensive physio. He is still resting a lot to get ready for the hard work in front of him...We promise visiting can begin again soon! We will let you know or you can call his cell for when would be a good time to drop in. Obviously he really wants to see people, but it just needs to be a little controlled.

With warm wishes from White Rock, B.C.
Joel, we are all thinking about you and sending our positive thoughts and warmest wishes as you begin your journey in extensive physio. You show such amazing courage, determination and strength of will!! It is encouraging to read about your daily progess in this blog--what wonderful friends and family you have! So nice to see you reunited with your favourite furry friend JD.
With love from all of us in White Rock-Mike, Loretta, Tamara and Erika Schmidt
Dogs have a way of knowing when things aren't the way they're supposed to be with their human buddies. So glad you and JD could have some time together today. It was good for both of you and hopefully the first of many such times in the days ahead.
You look very macho with the new "hairdo", by the way.
You will be very busy with your physio and recovery, as well as visiting with your many friends and family members in the next few weeks.
You are in our thoughts 24 hours a day and we hope only for the very best of "what is yet to come" for you and the rest of the clan.
Love Cal and Nancy
i am so glad to see that you have moved up to the fifth floor!! it must have been wonderful to see your dog!! you have a great and supportive family and i wish all the best for you!

Hey Joel: A fine thing to reconnect with your four legged friend - especially, as Erin says, because his nose is wet - so he's healthy even while pining for you!
The shaved head is good, though I see you're not right down to shiny skin yet! Once you do that, you and your friends can entertain yourselves by drawing intricate designs on it. Lucky you - to have a head that can carry off hairlessness - most everyone else in the world who has a bald head looks like they got trapped in some weird waffle maker!
In the union movement we say "the struggle continues" - not meant at all as a defeatist sort of statement - and recognizes, as you do, that while all of life can b a bit of a slog, sometimes the struggle is bigger than other times. It's a version of "we won't bcak down"I suppose.
Anyway, dear man, rest and be strong for the road ahead.
Donna, Jan, Kaley, Josh, Erin - thinking of you constantly. With love, Aina
Hey Joel,
Glad to hear you will be starting physio so soon. Turns out I won't be going back up north, one of the geologists broke her arm and is being sent home, not sure what is going on with people these days!... JD looks really happy to see you, although he seems to be stealing all the attention in the top picture posing like that! Nice hair cut, don't drive the nurses too crazy!
Take Care,
Kirb
I am so glad to hear that the surgery went well and that things are moving along well. This year has been a hard one so good news is always good. Keep up the great work and we will see you soon.
lots of love,
Allison Rogers
Sonofa! I just left the most beautiful comment....but I had a blonde moment and couldnt post it! The jist of it was this..."You rule...your amazing...and every moment with you is like a gift." There was lots more too, but after I go steal you chocolate from work, I will just come back and tell you! XOXOXOXO JS

I have heard that in Native cultures, dogs primary purpose on earth is to take away human pain, heal, and mend hearts. In whatever capacity it is true - I am so glad you got to see JD. Thinking of you and sending more healing energy than you can imagine
Love you
ally
Hi Joel
Thinking of you
noticed new hair-do; looks good..
who's your stylist? Good move to 5th.. Aline will bring clippers next time we visit ??? Keep up the great work
Joel - we're devastated here in Richmond and wish we were there to give you a hug.. Just know that we're thinking of you and sending you every positive thought. Its going to be a long road but if anyone can get through this its you buddy. You're strong, positive, courageous and too stubborn to let this beat you and besides that your mother won't let that happen!!! We love you out here in BC Joel. Love Big (old) Donna
Hey Joel,
I hope you are feeling ok today after last night. It was great to have a chance to catch up. When you are in rehab today, don't curse us physio's/ET's too much, we like to make you work hard but our hearts are always in the right place.
See you soon,
Love Danica

Joel,
Great to hear that you are doing much better after the surgery! We are saying lot's of prayers down here for you. Matt, Don, an I spent the weekend with Lyle and C.J. up north. We had a great time, but Matt is sick again so he is back in the hospital in Detroit.
Stay strong!!
Love you!
D'Arcy
Look at the hottie with the shaved head - Looking good Joely!!! I am amazed at your progress and how you have maintained such a level head & upbeat spirit...you're my hero Joel & I love you very much!! So glad you and JD got to be reunited again, whatever Ally says is what I think too!!! xoxoxo
yoyo amigo. I think I have this thing (blog) working for me now... with a little technical assistance from my 'senior' mom (?!). It's fantastic to see the JD's tongue on your forehead and we also like the new hairdo (personally, I'm a fan of anyone who isn't going bald and still takes it to stubble just for sport). We think about you constantly and visit the site frequently - there's so much love and energy on these pages! Anyhow, we want you to know that we are sending as much of that as we can muster straight from Banff to your soul. Keep up the good fight and we'll be by soon. Love Carl, Kathy, Calvin jr., ??, and Dug.
Hey Stud,
Glad to hear you got to see jd. Those pictures were not gonna cut it for much longer. I think you need some lightning bolts when your hair grows out a bit, that would look sweet. You could even get them coloured in, like back in the 80's. Get your rest, and attack that physio like a spider monkey!
Hi Joel
Nice haircut! Glad to hear that you've been moved out of ICU. Physio is going to be tough, but definitely worth the effort. You're a strong guy with a great spirit.
Sending you lots of love and hugs,
Mark Miller
hey buddy,
I didn't think you could pull of the shaved head because I am so use to the "fresh off the boat wind blown locks" we know and love. Must say the shaved look is still working for ya.
Glad to hear you are on a positive road to recovery and i'm sure the change of scenery in your new locale is refreshing.
I wish I was coming home so I could come and visit but alas I am stranded here in C-town as a working woman. But you know that you are in my thoughts everday!
EB
hey joel! JD is sooooooo cute-he will definitely heal with tons of kisses. make sure you let the nurses and doctors know that it is vital that he stays.
kiss kiss hug hug BIG kiss little hug BIG hug little kiss
KK Bogard!
I have to combine the words awesome and tiger to describe how great you are: Tigawesomer. love you.
